Zhan Law Office, P.C. is a law firm specializing in providing China legal services in State of Iowa and more. We set up office in Iowa so we can provide closer services to people or businesses in the US who need legal assistance for matters related to China.
Zhan Law Office, P.C. is founded by Jinying Zhan (Nick). Nick is a licensed attorney in China under ETR Law Firm and has been recognized by the State of Iowa Supreme Court to practice Chinese law as a Foreign Legal Consultant.
China, as distinct from the United States, has a single legal system covering all provinces and jurisdictions. Nick’s license allows him to practice law throughout all of Mainland China (Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao have different legal systems). Together with his colleagues in Guangzhou and professional network in other major cities in China, Nick is able to provide full legal services for the clients as far as China law is concerned.
Nick was formerly a district judge in Xiamen City, Fujian Province. He later moved to Guangzhou to start private practice as an attorney with top firms there. Over the years, he accumulated practical experience in both judicial as well as private sectors. Nick’s experience at court helps him to understand governmental practices and cultures in China, which when combined with his experience in private practice, enables him to provide guidance from inside the Chinese legal system to achieve justice and to meet business goals in China.
Nick’s private practice included consultation for multi-national clients in many areas of law including FDI, corporation, M&A, employment, international trade, IPRs, real estate, litigation and arbitration. While in Guangzhou, Nick assisted foreign companies from the United States, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Latvia, Russia, Singapore, and Hong Kong to set up and conduct businesses in China. Both litigation and non-litigation matters were handled.
Nick graduated from the School of Law, Xiamen University, a leading law school in China, in 1995. He attended Groningen University in the Netherlands and obtained his first LLM degree in International Public Law in 2002. He completed a second LLM degree in International & Comparative Law at the College of Law, University of Iowa in 2010. This educational background has given Nick a unique worldview.
Nick has worked in the United States since 2010. He participated in projects that involved sourcing, litigation, collection, contract review and negotiation, office management, business management, employee management, IT solutions, sales and marketing, prior to establishing his Chinese law practice in the United States. Knowing the “business side” of American operations, helps him to provide more realistic and practical solutions for international business transactions.
